uLust.com review

Quick Summary:

Hookup potential: 2/5    Features: 3/5    Design: 4/5    Content: 4/5

  • Clean-looking site with a tight, integrated design and interface.
  • Fake profiles galore.
  • Chatroom shills.
  • Lots of XXX content, but more of a porn site, really?

    The Full Story:

This was going to be a review of fling.com, but they decided they were going to have some big problem with our credit card, so we’ve postponed it until we can figure that crap out. Instead, this will be a review of uLust.com.

So I kicked it off by landing here, signing up and logging in. Here’s a screenshot of the members’ area.

Well, first impressions: it’s a clean, white, uncluttered, and attractive site with a lot of Ajax-y Web 2.0 bells and whistles. The upsell advertising (cams and penis pills while I was on the site) isn’t so in-your face and ubiquitous as it is with AFF.

The membership database, however, is considerably smaller than AFF ‘s–clocking in at around 5.5 million, but while I was logged in there seemed to be a proportionately larger number of active members; namely, 57-115k active/5.5 million for uLust.com compared to 132k active/32 million on AFF. My later interaction with the site ended up leaving me with some serious reservations about the accuracy of that figure, though. For which read on.

So I finished filling in my profile details, fired up the search function, and went trawling for tail. Now what you should probably know about mainstream adult dating sites is that a sizable percentage of them create fake profiles, usually of women, to attract and retain the interest of paying male members. The first thing I noticed was that there were a lot of suspicious profiles, even by industry standards. Like “the overwhelming majority” a lot.

Some, like this one, is just too “Penthouse Pet” to be real, while others, like this one, were real-but-c’mon-guys-it’s-a- freaking-hooker. Genuine profiles like this one, this one, and this one were in the decided minority plus, uh, you know. Look at them. “Hoorah?”

It wasn’t too long before the whole site started to give me a serious “porn” vibe. It seemed to be far more about the fake profiles and shilling for camwhores than it was about anything else. Like, for example, “adult dating”. Or “getting laid.” There was also an annoying bug in the picture viewing code, which kept distorting the picture dimensions in the thumbnail view when I was reviewing profiles.

After about half an hour searching profiles I wandered over to check the “Members’ Video Chat”. The girls here (and surprise, they were all girls) all seemed to be professional websluts doing “teaser” shows. They weren’t overly responsive to what was being typed, and one of the rooms was empty when I looked at it. Two others closed while I was viewing them, leading me to suspect the girls had received requests for private shows .

The main Cams link here goes to pages full of thumbnails. You can click on a thumbnail to talk to the associated girl if she’s available AND you join the ulustcams.com site. Joining this complementary site requires validation of your credit card, then presumably (I didn’t investigate much further) the payment of some per-minute charge to naked cam-to-cam with the googly-eyed slut of your choice.

Like I said, a glorified porn site. The “Movies” link takes you to a bunch of porn clips (yeah, I’m on an adult dating site because I only want porn, right?) These clips have some Firefox playability issues, which I couldn’t be bothered figuring out. The user videos are little better, though they suffer from the same issues as the profiles. Namely that a lot of them consist of generic porn content. i.e. “they’re fakes.”

uLust’s chatrooms were all dead when I looked in on them, except for one (the “Lounge”) which had a fake-profile “babe” chatting in it. This prosti-shill regaled the room with a banal chronicle of “her” daily routine (“Yeah, sorry I was just on the phone. Yeah, I’m feeling pretty tired now. Yeah, wonder what I’ll have for dinner tonight.”) The (old, unattractive, desperate, horny) men floating around the room were hanging on her every utterance, entranced. Some of them definitely seemed to be regulars. They had kind of a leering, wolfish demeanor and snippily informed me that if any REAL women turned up (keep dreaming, losers!) the “vetereins” would have first crack at them.

I scanned through the forums and groups. They have a reasonable number of posts, but they’re all moderated (there’s a general theme of heavy-handed moderation, presumably because the owners of the property don’t want people squawking publicly about how much the site, you know, sucks.) You can see that most of them are of the LADIES HERE I AM LET’S FUCK variety. Yeah. I hear that’s how the hardcore playaz really pull.

As you can probably tell by now, I was less than impressed by my uLust.com experience. There’s very little evidence of genuine community here and I’m skeptical about both the userbase size and participation level claims that they’re making. On the bright side, the site looks good, and there’s a ton of porn (movies and galleries) there, if that’s really what you’re after. But don’t expect to get laid, and don’t expect not to feel like you’ve been cheated, if you join expecting anything other than a boatload of porn.

    C-. Must try harder.

yup lately websites about dating pay really well to their affils. seems world is in need of love.

Yeah they pay okay, though AFF have cut their payout heavily, and might still cut it further.

I guess in terms of the world needing wuv and cuddles, the online dating industry manages to benefit from the same truism that applies to offline entertainment industries. People will place a higher priority on temporary escape from their misery than on food, rent, whatever. Hoorah, I guess.

it is FAR worse then you can imagine… STATED over 5,000,000 members.. most are so old they have not visited the site in over a year or more… the women in the chat room (most of them) are frauds as well… they show 40 to 80,000 people online.. yet no more than 20 people in ALL of their chat rooms…. FEW women will ever go off-site… meaning no Yahoo or phone.. in 6 months on that site I went OFF site with 2 and 99 percent of the men I have spoken to have never gotten any women to go off site… YES ULUST is a FRAUD… The same man answers Customer service phone all the time.. they don’t protect chaters from fraud or abuse, they refuse to answer any e-mails questioning their statistics of membership or online people.. the entire site looks like a fraud to me. Stranger yet. On Sunday Night April 18th there was a wholesale cancellation of a group of men (regular chat room participants) that had expressed concern over the legitimacy of the women on the site and the same statistics you have noted appear to be incorrect. Moderating is not accurate. when these things are discussed by members in open chat it seems as if it is pure censorship, as they fail to moderate the people who are abusive and disruptive in the chat rooms.

      In Reply to Craig Eisele-

Ulust is not “fraud”, the member database is from 9 years of doing business. We receive TONS of new profiles daily which are approved by our customer service team to ensure the profiles are real and not fake profiles, we have a team of customer service that works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week 365 days a year. We take providing customer support as a very high priority so our customers stay happy using the site; we also have a security enforcement team in place that does nothing but look for “scammer” profiles and deletes them immediately once found.. If you ever run into one of these scammers you can contact our customer support and get that profile reviewed ASAP and removed if found to be doing fraudulent activity or even if a member is being abusive we will give that member a warning. We try everything in our power to remove these scammers from our site so our members can hookup with REAL members in a fun / adult environment. If you have problems with any member our support team is online 24 hours a day to assist you just visit http://www.ulustsupport.com for LIVE Chat Support.

We will not go into a debate of our member base statistics as that is company data that is confidential but rest assured we have TONS of REAL new members joining daily and what our numbers show for online is accurate.

Also about females leaving the site to go to yahoo / msn / aol … not all members want to give you their personal contact information. That’s the whole reason they joined a dating site so they can have the security of getting to know a person without providing personal contact information until they want to provide that information. I would suggest getting to know the person first before you ask for personal information unless that member wants to give their contact information right away…if you went into a bar and asked a girl for her number you would most likely end up with the same ratio of numbers received. If you are looking just to get laid then you might want to try a escort site as that’s what it sounds like you are looking for,, remember http://www.Ulust.com is a dating site that can provide you with endless possibilities of contacts to a gender your seeking to hookup with but just b/c a profile states looking for “sex” doesn’t mean they don’t want to get to know your before they hookup or give out personal information.

        Hi Dan,

Thanks for taking the time to respond to our review on behalf of your employer. I agree that uLust.com is not a fraud, and think Craig was getting a little emotive and hyperbolic when he labelled it as such.

Otherwise though, I stand by my review, my description of the experience I had on your site, and the conclusions I drew based on that experience. People are naturally free to try your site out for themselves and make up their own minds.

        Take it easy,

In response to Dan: Come on now… If I told you my opinion it would be promptly moderated because I have some choice words for your (lack of) business practices and decency. So let’s stick to the facts only, as taken directly from Ulust and the advertisements.

Step 1: You or some other male employee poses as a female with stolen pictures, and you phish with spam for answers to a mail like this one, which lures the unwary in (this one is from “Chrissy” )

hi whats up? its been like a month or something since we last chatted and I was thinking about you and decided to shoot you an email to say hello. how have you been? do you remember me? I am guessing you dont since it has been awhile and we didnt chat for long in the first place. well, if you dont remember me its ok, I wont be offended 😛 and if you’re still interested in chatting then email me back at this address!

write back soon and take care!

p.s. I added a pic of me to jog your memory, just incase you forgot who I am. I remember peoples faces better then email address or names lol

Step 2: Oh yeah! We have a hottie that remembers us! If you reply to this mail you get this:

hi !!!! not to sound like a dork but I am so excited you wrote back 🙂
I don’t have much time to reply since I’m at work and they get pissy if they see us using personal email but I just wanted to let you know I got your message and will write back later.
I don’t remember if I told you but I am not on aff anymore, I have joined to great dating site, and spend there most of my free time,
this is link to copy of my profile: http://blog-free-space.com/chri/
it should get you at least a little updated on me, we can chat on this site in future, because I’m not often checks my email,
        will write more later! *kiss

Step 3: If you use the link to see her profile, you are funneled right into the joining process which lists prices by the WEEK, denoted by a nice little “w” instead of Monthly like any legitimate operation. Visiting the site result in some instant fake interested hotties – not bad considering they would not have a clue who we are. Take special note that the profile fields for nearly ALL women on the site will “tell you later” and good news for senior citizens, the majority of the women all accept men 18-80, 19-70 or 18-39. Ulust was in such a hurry to fill up on fakes they did not even bother changing their style on the fakes by using “””” as the profile title on numerous profiles!

Last Straw: Since this is a dating site, let’s go ahead and drop their proverbial pants shall we? This fantastic fact will prove the scam like no other: Go to ANY page on the site, and while there note the upper right corner box, it claims “Total Members” and “Members Online Now”.

Simply selecting VIEW, and PAGE SOURCE will allow you to scroll to any of the pages HARD CODED membership numbers! Note that they vary by page so it looks like people log in/out and memberships fluctuate. Here is the actual code showing that the number are not derived from any database but pulled out some scammer’s dirt pipe, in this case it is line 44 of the Home screen of a member:

        Total Members: 6,379,678
        Members Online Now: 146,216

This is a standard HTML Table entry and look, don’t you feel special? They even turned the hard coded number red for us! Thanks!

Ulust should be renamed Ubust now, because the truth is out, hope this finds its way to some other forums, and I will be posting it EVERYWHERE!

If you want to meet people, go somewhere else!

Yes I got seduced into joining the site. I first joined a free site than suddenly found all these emails about girls who were supposedly going gaga over my profile on this site called ulust.com. I wasn’t even a member there but thought maybe somehow my profile was shared with this site from the free one I had joined. So I went to ulust and saw all these messages to me but couldn’t check out the profiles of the girls who sent them -nor could I respond unless I was a paying member. so like an idiot I paid out for a 3 month membership. At first I thought it was amazing but in only a very short time it occured to me that it seemed like the “models” on the site were paid to try and keep the guys (like me) hooked and fooled into thinking there are all these amazing hot babes checking them out. Everytime I log in – only seconds later – I always get some hot babe visiting my profile. The little indicator box shows when that happens. Like clockwork – every time I log on it happens only seconds later. And the strangest thing – since I’ve joined – not one single new message in my once full inbox!! (full before I even joined!!)
So in my judgment from my experience – the site is a total scam – with paid models who somehow spot when you sign on and try to make it seem like they’re checking you out. Unfortunatley I flushed 45 bucks down the toilet before I figured it out. For now on I’ll do more research and find helpful site like this with reviews. Incidently – once I realized ulust was a scam – I googled ulust fake profiles / scam – and that’s how I found this site!

I need to further comment now on the ulust (scam) website. I was suspicious as to why whenever I log in, some hot chick almost instantly visits my profile – as notified by the little popup notification box in the left hand corner of my screen. Well, I’m a webmaster myself and I suspected it might be a robot java script making the popup or (hot chick visiting me) appear, and not an actual “hot babe” visitor to my profile. My hunch was right. They are using a java script that “onload” of your homepage, generates the fake visitor to your profile. I was able to see it in the view source code of the page. I actually created a page of my own using the code from thier site – seperate from the ulust.com site and waa-laa! The same hot chick came to visit me on that site page too! Anyone interested in seeing it – although slightly crude- e-mail me at fandangler@aol.com and I’ll show you the page where you’ll get the instant visit from a fake ulust.com babe! As for me I’ll be asking for my money back!!

Yeah, it’s a shame that such deceptive marketing practices are the norm in the adult dating industry, but it is what it is. The root of the problem is simply that women aren’t as interested, generally, in signing up to casual sex sites as men are, so on hetero sites you’re virtually guaranteed an enormous gender ratio disparity.

People running such sites know they aren’t going to be able to attract members if they’re honest about their statistics, so they resort to the kinds of tricks and gimmicks you’ve described.

In my experience so far, all the major adult dating sites do it: it’s more a question of “how much” than “if”.

      I joined http://www.Ulust.com about a week ago. I have to date: Sept. 2, 2009
mailed out over 208 messages since I am disabled and can not get out to work anymore. My only pleasure is talking with beautiful girls online and receiving their messages. I have not received one message from any of the messaged girls. I am a very nice, even good looking man. I don’t usually ask for sex but just a chance to talk and pass the time.

Zero messages received and I have been deceived completely. I have lost almost $35.00 of my disability check. I know it is my fault for joinging but I believed the hype and advertising practices. I have been overcharged and undelivered on promises the advertising bills itself as.

I have found that there are some on Ulust that have multiple profiles, using different names and cities on each profile. (I have a pictographic memory for faces – I am a trained observer). It seems that some contact me occasionally, only to keep me interested to keep the subscription each month, and some that only ever want to cyber chat, never having any intention to meet anyone though their profile claims otherwise. Yes there are many that may sign up each month, but I understand women get a free pass. On the streets I am approached, but for professional reasons, I can not get personal with them, the reason I signed up to the site – to meet unassociated people to eliminate the conflict for professional conduct (can not socialize with clients, associates, or potential clients). The web cams are understandable. The web chat in chat rooms is acceptable, and the promotion to upgrade is only good business and to offer additional benefits, but I honestly wonder how many women actually hookup with the men clients of Ulust. I am far from unattractive. I am far from being stupid. I am far from being unsocial, and even get hit on by teens on the streets (but too young for my preference) but on the site, I have yet to exchange more than two consecutive messages. After the second message, which is always only as a chat to know each other to see if we would click and I have NOT asked for personal information or given personal information during these messages which would be a primary reason to not reply again, even after they say they “really want to know (me) well” or “personally”, the messages drop off to not more than zero additional replies. I have yet only messaged friendly or light flirting or discussion so I can read the woman (or supposed women – Yes I caught six men posing as women on other sites) to know if I want to continue discussion to decide to give personal information, so there is something not right with the women members – and I am not that stupid to not understand that women are people and have their own opinions and/or preferences. It seems that they are only there to lure men to become members. My experience of the social networking aspect of the site is just about as tangible as Global Warming…. NOT. Or maybe a few hookup occasionally. The site claims if you don’t get laid after 60 days, the next month is free, but after six months, I have yet to meet anyone yet alone get laid from this site. Quite frankly I have been probing a few sites, and they all seem to have the same basic M-O profile for new members, designed to get the new member excited enough, and just enough messages to keep them interested, to keep signing up each month. I am a rare “man’s” man, (case hardened and drive and build muscle cars and exotic cars and motorcycles) as well as a true lady’s man, and do not have to fake a thing of who I actually am. I have had runway models (plural) for girlfriends, and we are still friends, so there should be no reason to be undesirable to the women members on the site, though a few men have approached me, but I only prefer the intimacy of a woman. There also seems to be some subcultural ideosynchrocies, that is not prevalent on other sites. So what is wrong with this picture?? (in the vernacular) There are a few sites that I would suggest to men to never become members for. Ulust is so far, one of them.

Paid Member but about done most everything I’ve read here I agree with alot of ?.My mail gets answered in groups sometimes 5-6 replys in a 5 min timeframe.None of my socalled friends ever have the Instant message I paid a premium for.Check your Friends online I’ve seen as many as 35 of mine on but none with IM!I also told the site about men visiting my profile with my gender block,I think what happens is they screw up and the person replying to messages or visit shows thier real profile (shit).I’ve been around the block a few times being over 50 I know what a 24 yr old woman looks like and its not some I’ve seen there.Another glitch you can check if you add someone to friends then go back into manager check the box next to thier name scroll down click accept all checked and you can view thier private pics which aren’t really private I guess.Have also seen profiles of the same gal differant name same pic another view or maybe they are twins that wear the exact same bra.Any responses I’ve ever gotten are lame one liners (hows your day babe ?)Another word of warning in profiles when your checking the women out there is an ID # down at the bottom the higher the # the newer the profile some of them should be getting dusty by now, also in thier profile if they are looking for erotic chat or mail do you remember that choice when you filled in that blank (no) thats because it wasn’t.Maybe this will help you other suckers or maybe thier rep. will answer all these ?

Hi I have a profile on uLust.com my profile name is bigcock4uperth and I have become aware thru my patronage of the site that it is completley fake!!If it was anything but I would not say it is fake however the sad fact is it is 100 percent fake and desighned to fleece users of our hard earned money.
The owner of the site of course is going to deny that it is fake I mean come on when it was set up they knew it was fake and its blatantley obvious that it is if you use it for a while.I would advise others NOT to shell out money to join the site as it is just a sad state of affairs and more of a porn site than a place for normal people wishing to meet a genuine female partner that is not a prostitute or a stripper on cam for which u have to pay dearly.A word of advice from a patron of the site(only because I cant be bothered takin my profile down)DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!

I just wanted to post a note about the site. I am a member and yes the site is a big rip off. I have found many of the same girls with different user names on the opposite side of the country for the most part. I get lots of replies to my messages but its so funny how it seems like a different person replies to every message, they ask the same questions every time. Oh and a lot of the replies I get from different are exactly the same. Of I download to pdf the profile of duplicate women some even use the same photo shoot just different poses on their different profiles.

This website is a fraud, simply for the fact that I recently received an unsolicited email welcoming me to the site as a new member. I never signed up for the site yet now I’m being barraged with spam saying I’m receiving messages from girls to a fictitious profile that I never created. Websites that rely on this tactic are never legitimate and get reported as spam straightaway.
